Folks, I've been trying in vain, to acquire an exterior photo (or two or three) of the DEARTH Music Shoppe there in Lima, Ohio, where Jerry Byrd bought his first Rickenbacher steel guitar.
I've communicated several times with the late Ron Dearth's neice whom I believe is currently the active proprietor and no willingness to assist us.
I've contacted the local newspaper for any stock photo's they might have and no interest whatsoever.
I've had a couple of Forumite offer to take a snapshot or two for me, God Bless them, but after a year, nothing.....
Does ANYONE, live in that town, that has a camera and can take me some snapshots, quality "GOOD", so I can include them in the to be updated JERRY BYRD FAN CLUB site? I'll remiburse for cost of film and processing if need be.
PLEASE.........I do need help.
Otherwise, I'm left with the monsterous task of driving from Portland, Oregon, to LIMA, Ohio, just to handle this project.
ANYONE hear me? |

I called and talked with Kathy and the pix are being prepared for me at this time. I was afraid to call, not wanting to pester her about a local problem. I found her to be most friendly and willing to help.
THANKS again for urging me to take direct action.
Ain't this FORUM and its members the greatest! |

Ray ;
We were returning from vacation in Southern Ohio the first part of May and were to pass through Lima, Ohio . One of the things to do was to take a picture of the Dearth music store and get a picture for your web site on Jerry Byrd. Severe weather ( t-storms and funnel clouds ) that day made us re-route east and return earlier than planned. We're going to go back this summer hopefully and I'll try again. |

Are there ANY.........Nashville area pickers that might be kind enough to assist a 71 year olde wanna-be steel guitar player.....with a personal project?
I'd like to get a pix or two of Jerry Byrd's former Nashville residence. I believe the address was 4849 Aster DRive.
Does anyone recall for certain?
Might someone be willing to do this for me?
Color is preferred. I'll gladly reimburse you for the cost of the film, processing, etc.
I'm quite aged, infirm, and failing fast. I cain't wait forever.......... THANK YOU |

I got guys that go up to lima "the city of love" in my local all the time, we got local train pools that go up there maybe I will ask them and try to find out where this store is, if it isn't to far. I can go up there myself but I really hate lima, trust me don't go there sometimes history is best left in the past. |

Lima as in a Lima bean. The little town used to a big and booming town, they used to make locomotives there. However alot of the large manufactures folded, and it really is sort of a small ghost town, there is still stuff there but not like it was once. |

Yeah, I had the train connection. When my son was little we read up on steam locomotives together. Lima was one of the great world centers for steam engine production. But I never was sure how they pronounced it up there. I guess when the deisels came in they didn't make the transition. |

David you are exactly right that is what happened. LIMA locomitves where good steamers' and they did try deisel but couldn't get it. Right next to the CSX main is the foundation footprint of the old manufacture plant, some buildings still exist but should be tore down for saftey reasons. I would have liked to seen it when Lima was in her glory.
There is a small community park where they have the last or on of the last steamers' built there.
I thought they used to have gambling in the town years ago I may be wrong on this. But I know that there was a law suit current in hopes to allow native americans to build a casino. |
