Next week I will be seeing Mel Tillis in concert across the Red River. Anyone know who the steel player will be or does he carry a steel player on the road? I am looking forward to a night of relaxation and entertainment.

Last I heard was Terry Bethel landed the position as Steel Guitarist with Mel and was going to try his best to make it a steady job.

I think it's safe to say that Terry has made it past his 2 week trial period with Mel Laughing 26 years or there abouts is a long trial....it's more of a sentence!

Terry is Mel's steel player and I just seen him Saturday night at the Opry (on TV) and live at the ET Midnight Jamboree. I do believe he was playing a Mullen and he sounded monstrous!!!!! The whole band may be the tightest and tastiest band thats out there playing country music today as well as the best dressed and he will most likely be there with Mel when you see them.

They are truly a very professional organization. I will say this is all in the ear and eye of the listener and viewer Smile I happen to love bands that play arrangements and don't nesseceraly have any hot dog players (although all of the players could hot dog at any time they wanted to). I love to see a band work together as a unit and in my opinion these guys are right up in the top country bands today.

I know there are many that do it just as well so please take this as meant just my opinion SmileI know about half of members in the band personally and have for over 20 years so I may be a little biased LOL

Have fun at the show!!

Bob

Terry is playing with Mel. The first time we met him was in Branson when Mel was there. He is a awesome steel guitar player and a great person who we both call our friend! Roy and I are proud to know Terry and we pray he will be at St. Louis this year again. Laurie

Well you both are right...Terry played Blondie (the Bethel) on the GOO and then played a Mullen at ET's. BOTH sounded awesome! But then again, Terry was playing.

Thanks so much for the info. I knew Terry had been ill recently and did not know if he would be the steel player for the show. What great news for me and my friend. I heard Terry at the Texas show and visited with him for a few minutes and he was so courteous. I sure look forward to hearing him and hope to speak with him even for a brief moment. I sure will comment on the show and Terrys performance as well as what kind of steel he is playing. I wish it were tonight.

Yeah, Terry is playing for Mel alright. In fact, this weekend he'll be in Kentucky with Mel. I was just talking to him and he's feeling real good right now. He's trying to eat more healthy food and both of us agreed that sometimes the healthy food isn't the best tasting. Terry is a personable and gracious fellow. He makes you glad that you decided to talk with him, not like others I've known. And what a tremendous steel player! What he doesn't know about the steel isn't worth knowing!
