bob i dont know where this goes
and i know its been covered
but its a sad day in country music
when a sound man on a show like the grand ole opry
is so (stupid) that he cant mix a steel guitar
i think that about tells you where country music
is .mel,s music sounded like a cd until they
panned over to the steel , then there was nothing
if i stepped on anybodys toes that may be related to the sound man , well im sorry

Roger, I see the same thing on other shows all the time. Its just not the steel either. These guys are supposed to be the best, aren't they ?

Changed channels as soon as they panned to the steel and couldn't hear it. Really tick's me off! WSM needs to hire the sound man from RFD-TV where the steel always sounds great.

I watched the GOO last night on the rerun of the early show and I could hear Terry Playing (which sounded good).I know I would like it if the steel was a lot louder but it was not.It is not loud enough for me ever when Tommy White plays. I do agree that it was not loud enough but they will tell you that the entertainer is the main focus(which we don't agree with as musicians).Ron

This is so strange to me. I watched the rerun today and Terry was up in the mix perfect. I have no idea why this happens. I thought Terry sounded great, was up in the mix good and had terrific tone. What gives? I don't know.

the only show i have seen with a good steel mix
was martina mcbride with paul franklin
like last night could not even here steel

Roger, I think you may be correct about the problem being somewhere in the chain, i.e., the cable company. As with Jerry Roller's experience, I watched the rerun at noon today, and Terry's playing was at a pretty good volume level.

Oh, and he was at an incredibly good level as to the artistry of his tasteful, innovative playing!

Folks I watched this live last night and our man Terry Bethel was up real good in the mix.
And did an outstanding job as always.

There was nothing wrong with the mix, Terry came in loud and clear! the only thing wrong with the show was the first artist!

It was very strange that a group before Mel came on was dressed in everyday looking attire and Carlene said "they just dress any way anymore, don't they". Then out comes the Statesiders dressed great and very pro looking. It took me back to the old Texas Troubadours and the Cherokee Cowboys. They look great and they perform great. The whole atmosphere of the place changed when the Statesiders took the stage.

I'm sure the dress made a difference in the end results of Mel being inducted.

I watched the rerun Sun. The mix was pretty good. BUT making Mel a member after FIFTY YEARS is more of an insult than an honor by these boobs running things.

I have always looked at the Mel Tillis Show as the perfect example of a class act. Great to see that Terry is feeling better!

I always thought Mel never got the respect he deserves. When we talk about great country shuffles, we always invoke names like Ray Price, Paycheck, Bush, Haggard, etc. Mel had tons of great shuffles and ballads.
Way to go Mel!!

I have been very privileged to be a member of the Statsiders, Texas Troubadours and The Cherokee Cowboys among other great bands. It always makes you feel special when you walk on stage dressed in those neat suits. The stuff these bands wear now we would not have even wore to set up in. I'm so happy for Mel and the Statesiders. And I too thought Terry was in the mix just fine.

I watched the rerun of the show and also thought the mix was pretty good - I could hear the steel anytime he was playing it and it stood out good during leads.
It just blew my mind that Mel was never a member of the Grand Ole Opry - I just always assumed he was - what is the deal with that - I know in th past you had to perform so many times a year or you couldn't belong, but I think that went by the wayside quite a while back!!

I think a lot of the big name artists are not members and would like to see some feed back re this issue.
Like what are the guide lines that decide
if,when and how one is asked or offered the chance to join.
To name a few
George Strait
The Hag
? Ray Price
I can't think of a lot of them right now.
Getting old,senile.
How about instrumental musicians like some of our steel pickers.
After all they are recording musicians as well as the singing artists.
Seems like there is room for more instrumental performances than just the square dancers and fiddle music.
