I tried one at Portland Music here and it scared the heck out of me for it's clarity, features, looks, and warrantee.
These things look like they are hard to beat.
Anybody got or tried one?

I tried one, but didn't buy it. To me, it was just OK - neither as good as an old BF/SF Bassman or an old BF/SF Vibrolux Reverb, and I have owned many of each.
The issue was that it was simply harsher and more trebly than the real deal - at least to my tastes.
Of course, YMMV and all that. It's a good sounding amp, but for that kind of dough, I'd rather just get a nice SF Vibrolux Reverb, which can still be done. Or a SF Deluxe Reverb AND a tricked-out Bassman head, which I think can still be done for somewhere near that kind of dough - 700-800 for the Deluxe, 400-500 for the Bassman head, something like that. |

You know, fooling with my PodxtLive and my basement rig, the 112 and floor mounted Session 500 and easily matching the "sample sounds" posted on the MF site, with my 3PU squer tele, I doubt if there's much of a way to beat it.
Not live with that many watts, and such reliability..
Still someday I'll find a tuber that will be in my collection.

Yeah, I use a Pod a lot also live. Years ago when I first got it, I sat down and tweaked the settings while A/B'ing with my BF Deluxe Reverb, and got several settings at different Deluxe volumes where the two were very close. That was good enough for me, and solved the problem of making rapid switches between PSG and guitar onstage - clean, low-volume settings for PSG, and more cranked-up settings for guitar. Close enough for gov'ment work, as they say. |

Well I got a Hot Rod Deluxe 112 today and so far I like it. I'll use it double amping with my 112, (or my Nvl400 on larger jobs) though I'll have to boost my highs on the Nvl112 to match it.
I'll use it with "no amp" modelling on my XtLive so I can have compression, delay and my cleaner reverb.
Against the Nvl12 it breaks up sooner of course, but I'm always in a spot where I can mike it. It's a darn loud 40 watts, that's for sure! Seems like the highs stay intact and don't break up with the lower tones like the compressor on the 112.
These things are sure high rangy, but I'm used to hearing them across the bandstand, and the guy I played a few years with that I liked his sound the best likes it over the others he's had. Said his Blues Deville 410 and 212s had too muchpower, too heavy, (and we always play loud.) The Blues Deluxe fried because of a different cap than the HRD has. (I remember he fried two of them.)
We'll see.
Thanks

Wow!
I just played through it hard for a couple hours, and it REALLY COOKS!
Besides playing it by itself mostly, I tried it with my Nvl 400 double amped, and it more matched it with the 400 bright knob pulled than the 112. No amp "model" needed on the xt Live, just my effects.
Can't wait for my guitar only gig next weekend.
I think the speaker actually broke in a bit and sounds a lot softer than the first time I plugged it in, but maybe it's because I've been listening to LOUD music the last couple hours. Maybe the reccomended speaker change afer a while, but I don't really think it's high on the list. I'm just going to play the heck out of it.
This one's a keeper.
And yes, TP, it's a FENDER.

'atta boy Eric, so just go get one!...you're an inspiration to us all.
I've been eyeing the Blues Deville 4x10 and hawking the different boards absorbing all the info that I can. I'm taking my lap steel with me to work next week so that I can see what it sounds like with steel (a6). Sounds great with the the tele.
I figure if it sounds good with the tele and holds together with the 8 string A6, that my Dekley E9 (S10) ought work just fine.

just wait till the speaker breaks in your really gonna love it . i am always getting complements on my guitar sound . best guitar amp for clubs, sounds good on with steel too . just roll the bass on 10 and bring the treble up to suite. i am going to get a 112 also. if your doubling all you need is a hot rod deluxe and a 112 and there both light amps that have a big sound. finally. |
