No Teardrops Tonight is one of my favorite Hank songs...Jerry's solo is very Hawaiian sounding on this cut. Every time I hear this solo, it reminds me of a trip I once took to the beach where I was listening to this song over and over in the car. The Drifting Cowboys at the beach???

Is it just MY IMAGINATION or do others share this point of view: With all of today's modern, space-age, electronic sophistication in recordings and intruments.........has there been a "special factor" that has been lost to the human ear by way of this current trend?

Well, I use this new technology for all it's worth, and I always have this question lurking at the back of my mind.. If anything's lost it is the immediacy of these older recordings, the raw nerve of musicians playing together in the same room.

Of course, new technology doesn't take away any of this on it's own, it's just a tool and not some living organism that plays tricks with us, but we - as musicians and/or engineers - can easily get caught up in the trap of searching for some sort of "technical perfection", simply because the technology allows us to do so.

In this process it's easy to forget that perfection is an illusion and communication is everything.

Hi Ray and Steinar, Jerry was great on anything he recorded. I just got through listening to an albumn I got off eBay, "Jerry Byrd Country Steel Guitar Hits". As far as technology, here's what this old Mercury/Wing albumn says on the front: "PLAY ON A STEREO PHONOGRAPH. This is an electronic re-processing to permit reproduction on stereo players of a performance originally recorded monoaurally." I'm sure it sounded great monaurally too. I wonder why hardly any of the old albumns never give the date of the albumn. This one doesn't have a date anywhere either.

Hi Ray. I Think JerryLost his original sound, The sound of a hiss or wah,Coming from under the bar, the moment he stopped recordin in King studios in Cincinatti Those engineers knew how to get the most out of the amps. and the equip. they had at the time the only person that i've heard get that wah in person was Wayne Tanner and he had Jerry's old 7 string Rick. And you sound as close to Jerry as anyone I've heard. Garland Nash

Garland, amen to that. Ray is the only guy to get that true classic sound. Not just tone, touch as well. I've heard and seen him play in person.
