I've been thinkin about getting one of these: http://www.frenzeltubeamps.com/id27.html Looks like the F-input would be good for steel. I mailed the builder, and he said that I would get at mid-dip around 800 hz if i set the controls right.

Cool-looking! I especially like the "retro" conversions, as that's something I've always thought of doing. Prices seem very reasonable, too, compared to most PTP custom made tube stuff.
