playing steel guitar, and man, what a great time. I made it a point to play almost all C13, no matter the style of songs we played and by the time of the last gig, it was just the single neck Clinesmith. There are no limits to what you can do with C13, that's all I'll say. I improvise about 98% of what I play, so I was like the pig in the proverbial %#&*house.
Sometimes sticking your neck out on the line and doing a crash course is the most effective way of getting yourself to really see the layout of the neck and formulate your own system of recognizing shapes, or patterns, or what have you. For me, it is mostly about intervals and shapes. Another thing, the C6, C6/A7 and C13 tunings have a lot of hidden mysteries in there just waiting for you to uncover. Carpe diem! _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

The C6th/C13th has been the best all around tuning. The early tunings were all limited somewhat it seems, but some folks really get around good on early tunings like C#m for example.
9 hours ?? sounds like some of the Polish weddings I played in the early 50s They would last for three days, with 4 or 5 bands for the reception. |

I too, am interested in your variation of C13.
I've been using "Reece's" ext C6, on my Lap steel, and Jerry Byrd's A9th, on another.(i.e."sand")
thanks

It would have been a 12 hour weekend, but I had to turn the last one down. I'm used to playing long gigs, just not so much on the steel. $100 an hour...well, not quite. However, I mugged the leader in the parking lot, so I made out OK.

I always do a bit of tweaking on the bottom strings. I wanted to spend some time in the bottom register, so in that case I retuned string 7 to A and string 8 to F#. I've been wanting to stick a low C on there, but it seems like a throwaway--plus the nut is not cut for that thick a string. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |
