I just received my Dynamic in the post today. The guitar itself is in pretty good shape, but I'll have to replace the nut, pots, and the tuner buttons are falling apart... I guess I should replace the tuners, as I plan to play this thing a lot and am not concerned with keeping it completely original. The Amphenol is probably going to go too... Anyone else been through this? Ideas? |

You can get the tuner buttons and most of the other stuff at stewmac.com. Usually you can repair the tuners, I have rarely had to replace any- and if you can keep it original it is a good thing to do so.

I'd agree that the tuner buttons are an easy replacement (cheap too, compared to replacing the tuners). I had my National New Yorker's Amphenol connector changed to a standard guitar jack by Joe Satriani's guitar tech Gary Brawer in San Francisco for around $60.00 USD if I remember correctly.

The tuner buttons from Stewmac usually have some instructions with them. The old buttons split easily with side-cutter diagonal cutters. The instructions say to heat the shaft with a soldering iron, and push the new buttons on, which works good. |

Thanks guys for the info... the tuners themselves seem fine, so I will go with the buttons I think. About the Amphenol, has anyone had problems enough to warrant a change to quarter inch standard? |

I had a serious shorting problem with the amphenol cord on my National Dynamic a few months ago.
I took a new guitar chord and removed the standard guitar jack from one end and had a friend replace it with the amphenol connector from the original cord.. Works like brand new and did not have to disturb the guitar at all. Cost was minimal. |

Angela sells adapters so you can use standard cords without changing the output on your guitar.

Steinar, thanks once again for that. Here's what happened:
I went in to see a pretty renowned local guitar tech today and no sooner than walking in, he had my guitar on his table and told me that it was more interesting to him than what he had planned. He is replacing the connector to quarter inch, the buttons, and the pots... and I can pick it up tomorrow! I've never had better service anywhere. If anyone is in or near the Vancouver area, his name is Paul Iverson.

Amphenol cords are still available and are made by Horizon Music and a "sister" company which is called "Rapco." You can order most of the same mechandise through them. Amphenol cords are usually listed under microphone cords. You can probably special order them through your local dealer or order them direct on the web.
here's the link to a web page... http://www.horizonmusic.com/Catalog/Default.asp?FILE=Hrzn_Cat_pg30.htm
