I've just bought a new Pearse bar, and would like to keep it smooth. Any advice on polishing?
I tried some 600 grit emery cloth on an old bar as a test, but it made the finish severely dull.
I don't have access to any sort of power polisher or the like, either!

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Unless you have access to a power buffing wheel and jeweler's rouge, leave it alone. A top quality bar with good chrome should not need attention anyway: I've used the same BJS bar for 15 years and it still looks new.

I am assuming you are talking about one of John Pearse's Cryogenic super duper alloy steel bars.

I have never needed to polish these bars after about 4 years of everyday use.
I do take an alcohol wipe to them most every time I play. Cuts the grease, and makes it easier to handle for me.

And even if you do have a power buffer, it gets very hot, and that wheel can grab it in less than a heartbeat and sling it across the shop, usually causing dings that can't be buffed out. Does this sound like experience talking??LOL Its best to leave it alone, or leave it to the professionals.

I am no longer interested at all in polishing my bar. Thanks for all the advice!

Marc, if you really want to polish your bar, use Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish by hand. I have polished several bars over the years and you can make a stainless bar so slick you can hardly hold on to it. I just did it absently while watching TV. Mothers has just enough grit in it to do a fine job with no other product needed!!!
