Is it OK to use hibernation all the time? Even if you may not get to the PC for a few days or more?
I've noticed my PC starts up and gets to the desktop much much quicker than the usual turn-off/ start-up.
I like hibernation.

Absolutely, as long as none of your open programs cause problems when you try to enter or exit from hibernation. Not every program will let go gracefully, but if you have no problems, go ahead and play the bear.
I personally can't get a reliable hibernation because of some of the open programs, but it's not a big enuf deal to worry about it. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Hibernation (and standby)were originally designed for laptops to conserve battery power. The original thought on hibernation was it would be used, for example, if you had a spreadsheet (Lotus 123 back then) that you were working on and wanted to shut down the PC for lunch that you could "hibernate" and when you restarted the PC it would bring you back to where you were in the spreadsheet. On most (every one that I've seen) it takes longer to shut down if you hibernate since Windows must cache everything to the hard drive and same way with startup, it has to start Windows and then retrieve all the items that were cached to the hard drive. |

Thanks Wiz and Jack.
Most of the time my desktop is cleared of any open things, except maybe SoundBlaster, upon shutdown.
