What is the difference between a Peavey Classic chorus 212 and a Stereo Chorus 212? Which is the better amp? |

The Classic Chorus is a lower wattage amp, and doesn't have the digital reverb and EFX. IMHO, it's far more suited to straight guitar. The Stereo Chorus 212 has far more power, and a pretty nice digital EFX package, so if you can get a tone/chip mod done on it, it actually makes a pretty decent steel amp. In fact, it's the amp I've been using the majority of the time for last 10-12 years. |

Just curious about the tone/chip mod, what kind of difference does this make over just a standard Stereo Chorus? I've got one I've used for guitar and it's been a strong amp. |

Gary, if you're using the amp for guitar, you don't want the "mod".
Pedal steel and straight guitar are different animals. |

I've got a Carter on order and I was thinking about using the Chorus for an amp, just curious about the mod. Thanks. |

Garry, the "mod" adds solid bass, as well as high-end clarity to the amp, neither of which are characteristics that typical lead players generally seek. (Why doesn't anyone play a Tele "clean" anymore?)
Anyhow, there are 3 capacitor changes in the tone circuits, as well as 5 B/B op-amps which are swapped in (to replace the two-bit stock parts). The results are probably more dramatic than you would believe...until you heard a modded one yourself.
I don't believe Peavey ever offered a mod for this amp, nor does John Lemay do them, anymore. Should you decide to do it, I can provide the details of John's improvements. It's not a difficult mod, but it does take some tech skills as one of the IC's is soildered in, and this amp is a pain in the asterior to disassemble.
Well worth it, though! |

Can someone post a picture of the stereo chorus 2-12 with the digital effects or at least a link to one? I didn't know that Peavey made any amps setup like that other than the Transfex Pro. 2-12 I guess I'm a little confused.
Is the stereo chorus with digital effects an older amp or a newer one? I remember in the early 80's they made a stereo chorus amp with chorus and two power amps but no digital reverb.
Anyway if anyone can post a pic or a link I'd appreciate it. Thanks
