I have a Chandler lap steel with a single-coil pickup. I had the cavity shielded but still run into a significant 60 cycle when overdriven around those pesky neon lights and want to switch to a humbucking.

I am soliciting suggestions as to which humbuckers I should look into. I play mostly country-blues and some blues rock.

Hi David You can still have hum, even with a humbucker. I've been using mini shielded cable for wiring guitars to get away from hum problems. I run the shields to ground on the jack, to the pot housings, and terminate as close to the pickup as possible, by spilcing the shielded wire to the pickup wires, leaving very little exposed un-shielded wiring. It's been working fine that way.
Exposed un-shielded wiring can pick up lights, fans etc, even with a humbucker.

Hope this helps

Regards BILL
