Has anyone actually seen another Stringmaster with this type of pickup come from the factory? I suppose it could have since this looks like the same pickup used on the fender 400/1000 in 1957. Either that or someone went to a lot of work cutting the pickup plates and filling and refinishing the pickup routs in the body. It does have the Fender logo on the front and the chrome matches the condition of the finish so could it be a special order?

Wow... I'm not qualified to answer, but that definitely LOOKS factory. VERY interesting. Wonder how it sounds?

In my opinion it is definately not factory, but; a very nice retro! I would only be inclined to think it was a factory piece if the ‘Knight of Fender Tweed’ said so! I'm not even sure the P/U's are Fender!

They look like they are Bartolini JAZZMASTER replacement pickups. I can't imagine why anyone would carve up a nice old instrument to get that kind of sound, especially when there are six or seven pickup manufacturers out there that made direct replacements.
Like my grandmother always said, "There is an ass for every seat in this world." but she didn't play slide.

Well, I say no way it is factory with those pickups, but I wonder if it has the blend controls under the bridge covers intact--that would confirm that the pickups were replaced.

Personally, I think those pickups sound better than the Stringmaster's even though they don't offer the same wide spectrum of tones.
