For all you steel players out there, which is the better purchase of the Boss pedals. I have read that if you're going to purchase one or the other, buy the RV-3 because the RV-5 does not have the digital reverb like the 3 did, but then I just read on the forum where someone didn't like the delay the RV-3 had that the RV-5 doesn't have. I know they do not make the RV3 anymore, but you can still find them on Ebay. DECISIONS, DECISIONS??
Could some of you guys (and gals) let me know your input. I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Al Vesel

Al, I like the RV3 because it has both features; delay and reverb. But, in all honesty I've never tried the RV5. The reverb is crisp on the RV3, so why buy two pedals when one will suffice? |

The RV-5 is digital and a far better reverb than the RV-3, IMHO. I tried and RV-3 and tweaked all night for a good reverb, never got it. The RV-5 is easy to get a great sound right a way. I use a seperate Ibannez digital echo, DDL-10. |

I have used both the RV-5 and RV-3. They are BOTH good Digital Delays.
The RV-3 has Digital Delay, Delay+Reverb and Reverb alone.
I like the RV-3 better than the RV-5.
I don't have any problems adjusting my RV-3 to suit my taste.
It's just different strokes for different folks, IMO. |

I've also tried them both, and found:
I like the delay feature on the RV3.
I hate the Verb on the RV3. Grainy and harsh.
I Love the verb on the RV5.
I hate the lack of delay on the RV5.
Another 2 cents. |

I agree with Andy on that, and use an rv-3 and and rv-5 for separate delay and reverb respectively, but am going to sell my rv-5 (found a reverb pedal at the music store i like).
I love both pedals, though! |

Hey Al. i know im younger than most other steelers (15) but ive playedwithseveral set ups. I have an rv-3 and an rv-5 and i prefer the rv-3. it just fits my taste better. - it seems to give you a good level of brightness and at the same time gives you a good crying-classic steel guitar sound.

Boss ought to combine the two pedals and call it the "RV 4" |

My RV-3 died on me, so I just got an RV-5 and a seperate delay unit. I was disappointed to have to replace one unit with two until I got it set up. The minute I started playing I was thrilled with the reverb, and the sound generally. I'll get my RV-3 fixed if I can, but I won't be in a hurry to change back. |

Al, it was nice talking to you Saturday. If you could have been to the Showcase yesterday, you could have heard both Mark and Mike's sets and what they use. They both sounded great!

I am using the Boss DD-6 with a SGBB and the reverb on my Nashville 1000.Love the tone from this combination.I think the black box is the greatest add on I could have spent money on. _________________ If I hear it,I'm gonna try to steel it |

Bob,
Sure did like all the feedback, but forgot to mention that I bought an RV-3 (sold my DD-3 on the forum). I really like both the delay and reverb together. Too bad Boss stopped making this pedal, making it where you would have to purchase a Delay and Reverb pedal separately.
Also, George, it was nice seeing you on Saturday. HAD A GREAT TIME!!! I sure wanted to be there on Sunday, but had an emergency come up.
Hopefully you will sponsor this again next year. I will definitely be there for both days and you can count on slotting me in to play.
See you later,
Al |
