after 30 years of picking i've learned some basic licks and patterns on C6....but...ok....i don't know what i'm doing...are there any logical, practical, books or lessons on basic chord progressions in the style of eldon shamblin, tiny moore, django, etc. that fall in a fairly simple, usable, pattern friendly manner?

Band in a Box has many jazz styles worth trying .If
you have BIAB try Essential Jazz Guitar Vol 2.This has 101 comping exercises for guitar with each one done in a 4 bar phrase.I choose ones I like and which I think are suitable for steel guitar. You do need to know where your chords are on steel and if you read musical notation you can play the licks /patterns to follow the chords.Once you have a pattern you can then jam/play along to BIAB which repeats each phrase 10 times. These are found in the 101 Jazz Guitar Comping Exercises.
Hope this helps a bit.
