I have a N400 that is dead quiet when you first turn it on, then the reverb starts to hiss/hum after about 20 minutes of playing. If I turn the reverb off,the noise is gone. Any ideas or suggestions?

I would first suspect the IC chip associated with the reverb drive and return circuits (dual opamp, 4558). This is a plug in chip and easy to change out.

After that I would clean all connections at the reverb tank, RCA male connctors and Molex connectors on ht e reverb harness assembly. Re-tension the Molex connectors on the reverb harness (I use a small flat blade screwdriver blade to accomplish that).

It has been my experience that the most common fault in older 400's is the connection of the molex connectors to the circuit board. I would start by cleaning all connectors and re-soldering the connector pins on the board.

I recently fixed a Peavey amp with the same symptoms. I disconnected the Tolex connector, sprayed Deoxit D5 on contacts and re-tensioned the connectors inside the Tolex connector, removed and sprayed the RCA connectors on the reverb tank. This cured the problem. However, there could be something else but I would check the mechanical things first.
