Does anybody have the music for the old folk song "Shenandoah"? I think it would be beautiful on the pedal steel.

Doug Jernigan has a solo steel version on the album "Doug and Bucky", a duet record with guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli.

The work of Greg Leisz with Bill Frisell has been praised here on the forum in the past. One of these Frisell CD's, "Good Dog, Happy Man", has a very interesting, dark version of "Shenandoah", without Leisz, but with the incomparable Ry Cooder. This is my favorite tune on this CD.

The Statler brothers have a very moving version on one of their earlier LPs. It's the same one that has Flowers on The Wall.

I heard a version of "Shenandoah" on Marty Stuart's website after Gary Hogue, who was Marty's steel guitarist, died. There were no other instruments playing along with the steel guitar on "Shenandoah" on the website. It was a beautiful version of "Shenandoah" featuring the pedal steel. One of the greatest versions I heard is the one by Charlie McCoy, with some awesome steel accompaniment (maybe by Russ Hicks?)

Kind Regards, Walter

My all-time favorite is Jo Stafford's version on American Folk Songs ... I find it incredibly moving.

For an instrumental version, Johnny Smith's is definitive:

I heard Reggie Duncan play it in the steel chat room. He said it was arranged by his son. I've never heard anything prettier, does anyone know if it's available anywhere?
