ZB guru Greg Jones has made a cd paying homage to Buck Owens and the Buckaroos. I got to listen to some of the tracks, and for all of you Tom Brumley and Don Rich fans, - this sounds like the real McCoy!
It all sounds so very authentic and the cover alone shows just how much Greg is into this genre, - there you can see Greg wearing a rhinestone suit much like the one the Buckaroos had at their Carnegie Hall show and looking very much 1966.

As a true "Brumleyologist," Greg captures the essence of Tom Brumley`s steel playing playing his `66 ZB through a black faced JBL equipped Twin, and his silver flake Tele sputters out rapid Don Rich licks. Greg has tuned down half a step and done all the songs in the original keys and the guy doing the harmonies with him, really does Rich honor.

If you`re into Buck and the Buckaroos, this is a great cd.
Unfortunately it`s not out on the regular labels, but contact Greg to get your copy.
And like Tommy Collins sang:"I`ll get mine!"

Sounds like a good one. I've got his "My Brand of Steel" CD, which is a few years old now, and it's excellent.

Greg is a great musician and especially understands the "West Coast Sound". He can nail Tom Brumley's sound exactly. He is a ZB authority. If you ever want to hear and see some REAL vintage classic country pedal steel guitar go see him at The Renfro Valley Barn Dance in Renfro Valley Kentucky. Greg doesn't think of himself as a star musician because he does it all the time, but he is. He knows classic country music inside and out and is (like me) a Buck Owens and Tom Brumley fanatic. Near everything I know about ZB's I learned from him, and I can really relate to him as a musician. I'll have to get ahold of his latest CD. Can't wait to hear it.

Kevin, thanks for your words about the Renfro Valley Jamboree and Greg`s role there. You took the words out of my mouth!
Renfro Valley`s motto is to give you the best time you can ever have and still feel good about it when you wake up next morning, and they certainly live up to that.
Like you say, Kevin, they give you good old classic country, and whether it is 4/4 shuffles, bluegrass, gospel, western swing or Buck Owens tunes, Greg excels at all styles, playing dobro, guitar, a stand up Fender steel and a regular pedal steel.
Together with a British steel guitarist, I had the good fortune of visiting Renfro last fall, and we two "jaded" Europeans were
both impressed and touched at the ambience and the quality of the good old country music we got to hear.
And Greg`s Buck Owens tribute is another great attraction to see and hear this year.

Well I guess I better click in on this one. Of course Karen & I think he did a great job. The prelude would surely take you back to 1965 on old highway 99. I spent most of my time between Sacto and Redding, Uncle Sam didn't want us too far away.

I listened to KRAK AM 24 hour station of GOOD COUNTRY MUSIC but that was a sign of the times. Buck and the Buckeroos sure did get a lot of plays on that station as I am sure they did others.

We spent most of my tour home based at Beale AFB in Marysville, Ca. It was a great time in our lives. Although Greg was born in Kansas, if he was paying attention before we got transferred he had a very early exposure to the West coast sound. Somewhere there should be a small label on him that says
" Made in California".
