Professional Cleaners!

- I just got taken to the cleaners on a ShoBud Professional
- By a Forum member (Skip Keane)!
- what a dissapointment...
- front Apron cracked across entire front (photo)
- and E9 & C6 necks separate when you throw the LKL
- purchased on representation (below)
- like feedback on what to do (seller is uncooperative)
- worth the $2k for a total rehab? (got $1500 in already)
Forum ad:...
...completely original with 8 pedals and four knee levers. The guitar needs nothing, I bought it from bobbie Stell Guitar Nashville about 6 years ago and it has never left the house. Tone to die for and sound wonderful, selling only because I lost my job. Asking $1500.00 plus shipping or b/o. I have photos too, just can't post on this site, I tried.. just email me, and let me know if you receive them. Also guitar stays in tune wonderfully

Brian, hope it works out for you but don't let this incident keep you down too long. The vast majority of our Forum members are decent honest folks who have come here to be part of the great steel guitar brotherhood that this forum has become.

Brian don't give up !! You know the old saying WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND, and HE WILL get his.
Been through this my self, and I know how you feal.
A guy like this should be kicked off the forum IMO. Hope everything works out.
Good Luck.

Interesting question. Seems your choices are:
1. Sell it honestly as is at a reduced price to someone who wants it as a project.
2. Keep it as is, try to repair the crack between the necks, and do any piecemeal repair and adjustment the mechanics need. Just accept it as an ole war horse with history.
3. Do the $2000 complete modern rehab, repair the body and apron and possibly refinish, and have a $3500-$4000 modded vintage masterpiece. You have it in front of you. Only you can say if the apron and body are repairable enough to make this option worthwhile. I think the rest of us would like to know if a body that far gone can be adequately repaired to make the modern mechanical rehab worthwhile.
And by the way, if the guy is out of work, he's probably already spent the money and no longer has it to refund you even if he wanted to. That's no excuse, but is probably the reality.

Going by the photo you posted, the cracks are only the beginning of what I'd be pissed about. The undercarriage parts themselves are rusted and corroded.....not acceptable, if he didn't accurately portray this in photos.
I really feel for you, Brian. Hopefully there can be a resolution that sees you compensated somehow.

Brian, if you're not familiar with John Coop, I'd say when he says it can be repaired, believe it! You should definitely talk to him about it. I've gotten a few of his world-class parts, and his reputation on the Forum is beyond sterling.

I saw that add & thought how great it would be to have another one to leave set up. Man I sure hate to see this happen here. I'm afraid if it were me I'd be headed cross country to pay someone a little visit. This isn't Ebay it's the Steel Forum and that kind of misrep just shouldn't happen here. There's no excuse.

Brian, this sucks. That's an ugly picture. I remember that guitar, and it sounded like a great deal. I'm sorry this happened. I will say that I have had so many postive experiences on this forum, and have had the blessing of meeting really quality people. I have done some good buying and selling here, where every one is happy, and every one I've dealt with has been concerned that everyone is happy. That's the way it should be. In this place we support each other and help each other.

I guess we need to take the unsolicited references some people offer on these 'for sale' threads with a pinch of salt, unless we personally know the people making the reference, eh?!
I am counting myself very lucky I was dealing with an honest gent when I bought my pro-1 from Wisconsin basically on a promise of its condition. I checked over the seller's previous posts and decided for myself he was indeed well-loved on the forum.
Brian, thats a bummer - especially when there were two references for Skip being a 'good guy' in that for sale thread. That would have just about been enough assurance for me. Like I say, I count myself very fortunate.

i too am sorry to here about your deal, Brian
i consider you did the right thing by speakin' out here for all to know
If one does'nt get a proper deal from a Fo'bro, i consider it should be known
BUT, before the hammer comes down, may SK come forth, straighten the matter out, & come up solid
in this way, he will uphold, consolidate the brotherhood / honesty that i have encountered here in all of my dealings w: the Forum Family
i see SK wants a SB Professional :

SK says, "I just sold mine and have been crying since."
Good information there Crowbear. SK can now buy this one back and end the crying for all concerned.

He must crying from laughing so hard.
This stinks. This guy has no reputation around here any more until he squares this up.
To sell a misrepresented guitar and throw in some lame talk about losing his job and then turn around and advertise that he wants to buy another one......I don't think I have seen anything quite this nasty from a person who is a member here.
SK you are a loser until you make this right.

Man what sight. Thank God it was only 1500.00. Could have been much worse. I am sorry that some one took advantage of the forum and the great people that do have morals. Now that you invested more money into a project than you have planned. It's time to really think this over. Take a loss and be trueful or take the time and money and restore this baby to a grand slice of history. It's the journey and learning that will help you recoop your investment. I bet you do your homework before you make another purchase. I have to say I have been taken a few times on other things that cost much more that any steel guitar. I decided that it was just money so I said a prayer and gave it to God. I know it does not seem to help when your steaming mad. I have found that what goes round, comes round.

Dear forum members,
I was not going to response to this but this is my good name. I sold this guitar in good faith and have never ever misrepresented anything. The guitar was sold with photos of the inside and the outside, there was no cracks and there has never been any cracks in this instrument. I am ashamed to see the replies that I see on the forum, when you don't know the whole story. The guitar was damaged in shipping, I was told that it was 16" long and would cost $300.00 to fix. I told Brian that I would pay half of that $150.00 to help. Thank you all for understanding the situation. I bought this guitar 6 or 7 years ago and it was my baby it never left the house. It sadden me to to sell it and more to see it damaged like it is. I will not reply again on this matter and it is a shame that someone can slander a persons good name. I have done business with many of you over the years and have never and would never misrepresent anything that I'm selling. The item was damaged during transit, it has insurance on it and he needs to settle it with the freight company. This is the only response that I'm making on this forum, it should not be up for public discussion.

Isn't it usually the shipper's responsibility to make the claim with the freight company?
