I wrote my first song on my Celtic Cross Baritone Weissenborn this morning. This is a rough recording, made a couple of mistakes and it reguires some good speakers to get the bass but thought you all might want to hear Neil Russel's baby:

It is actually open A (Open D formation tuned down to a an Open A.

Let me give a plug to my friend Neil Russel (two l's or one l?) who made this gorgeous instrument. I've had Neil make my son an Octive Mandolin which also has that full rich sound. There is nothing quite like Neil's Baritone Weiss's. And he practically gives them away (although don't tell him that since I want to get another instrument from him some day.)

This thing is huge. Size of a half-sized cello. It has a 30 inch scale length. Nothing else quite like it on earth.

That is real nice! Do you have a PU mounted in the guitar?

I don't have a pup installed yet. This was recorded with just a mike straight into the deck.

As far as strings are concerned: Neil told me he has worked out a deal with a string manufacturer to provide strings for the bari. I'll have to look the info up, but I know Neil reads the forum and maybe he can chime in with the info himself.

Real nice picken Bill, pretty song. What did you use for the recording, a PC or a stand alone unit? Im thinking of purchasing a recording unit but I'm totally ignorant to the subject, Ive been looking at the Boss digital studios???

Im useing John Pearse (just strings) resophonic baritone strings for open "E" 17-19-32-42-60-76 ($10.00 US)on my baritone weissenborn. The JP's are affordable and the gauges work great for a low "G" tuning(GDGDGB )but suck if tuned to an "A" or "G" in a 151351 shape.

I was talking with Wayne @ Wyres strings several months ago and conviced him that there was a demand for Baritone Weissenborn strings and that he should talk with Neil at Celtic Cross. Last I heard they were going to tool up and the guages would be 18-26-32-45-65-80, just right for a 151351. Im not sure on the price or minimum order size, Neil could tell you more. Bill

I have a tascam digital 8 track which wasn't that expensive and works well. I'm still learning how to use it.
