What is the difference between a Peavey LTD amp and the Nashville 400. They basically have the same cab with the 15 inch speaker. Also, is there a preference between the 2 amps?

Len,

The LTD uses only discrete transistors, and the EQ section is passive and uses a cut-only midrange. It's voiced like a lot of guitar amps. If you set everything at noon, it's far from flat. It'll give you a nice midrange dip. It's a very pure, raw, and sweet amp.

The NV400 is the opamp based circuit with active EQ. That EQ is not really voiced. It's flat unless you boost or cut where you want. The NV400 also has a peak limiter for protection of both the power amp and the speaker. The NV400 is a bit heavier too. The NV400 also has some send/return jacks and and a power amp in jack on the back making it a very flexible tool.

It seems that many prefer the purity of sound that the old LTD gives. But lately with Ken Fox's "intense" mods on the NV400, the reports are quite stellar, and I hear that the sound of these modded NV400's rivals just about any transitor steel amp.

I much prefer lifting an LTD than a NV400. That gravity thing.

Hi Brad:

Thanks for the feedback on the LTD and Nashville 400. I have a Nashville 400 with the LeMay mod and I use it with a 1203-4 12 inch black widow speaker and it sounds good. I could never get the sound I was looking for with the 1501-4 speaker.

I am in Florida for another month and can't wait to fire the Rev preamp back up. The BB sounds very nice with a single 1501-4 and a Power Block that I have been using while on vacation.
