I was making a compilation DVD-R with a recorder unit (Samsung DVD-R120).
When the disc was full, it kept recording for about another 8-10 minutes before automatically shutting off from recording.
When I pressed play, the recorder couldn't read the disc, and gave me this message:
EC:0507
System error is found. Please try it again after turning off the power.
When I click okay, the machine cuts off. And when I turn it back on again, I'm in the same error message loop. I checked the manual for that error code, but there was no information in the troubleshooting section.
Is the whole disc fried now, or is there a way to salvage the information on there? ...Something I can do to make the unit recognize and play it...at least so I can transfer the data I want to keep to a new disc. There's some stuff on that DVD-R that I don't think I can find again. I hope it's not toast.
Please help!
THanks! |

First, the disc needs to be "finalized" before it can be played (read), if it's still any good.
Since the video recorder is reporting an error I doubt that it can be recovered. The recorder can't read anything on it so it can't "finalize" it. That is the major drawback of recording directly to a CD or DVD, if there is a problem whatever you were doing in almost all cases is lost. |

I've tried it several more times, and get the same error. Rats!
I guess it could always be worse, but I still lost some things...
Isn't there some type of computer program that can read and pull the unfinalized information off of the disc, so I can re-save it to a new one? |

Not that I know of. Nothing in Roxio or Nero to do that. |

I'll give that website a shot, Lou. Thanks everyone. That was an interesting link Andy...I've also discovered those frustrations with recording with this unit. I definitely know what feature to look out for in the future. |
