This guitar looks like it had pedals at one time. I was not aware that any Rickenbacker had pedals. Can someone comment on this.

Yes, they did make a pedal guitar at one time.

If you go into Rickenbacker's site and look at the vintage instruments, you will see a picture of one complete.

This is Rick's 700 series. They were made from 1961 until 1970. There were three models, a single 8 string w/6 pedals, a double 8, and a single 10.

There was a guy in Santa Ana, Calif, that made a few pedal steel steel guitars for Mr. Hall,(Rickinbacker)
in the 1950's after Leo Fender came out with the Fender 1000 pedal guitar. I can not remember his name but he did very nice work. He redid a MultiChord guitar for me one time and it was great work.

That one's a beauty! Too bad about the missing mechanics. A shame.

There's a Rickenbacker book you can find in most good guitar shops that has a picture of James Burton playing a Rickenbacker pedal steel. If I remember right Jimmy Bryant is playing guitar in the same photo.
