Hi everybody, I'm new to steel, I just got my first steel from Bobbe Seymour in January and had my first lesson from Jim Cohen last week. I just found a nashville 400 with "the mod" for sale on the forums and was wondering what you guys think about them. Thanks!

The Nashville 400 was a great amp model. If the amp in question is in good working order, then it will last you the rest of your playing career.

Khoa, the NV400 was probably the main work hourse for pedal steel for about 20 years. Recently it has been replaced in the Peavey steel line by the NV1000, which has a little more power, and the NV112, which is a smaller and less powerful amp. A used NV400 in good condition is an excellent and economical amp for starting on pedal steel. It has everything you need. You may never need to replace it, unless something with different features catches your fancy later; and then it is a great backup amp.
The Peavey Nashville series steel amps are all very clean playing solid state amps, and are preferred by the majority of country steelers. Some of us like the more vintage sounds of tube amps. But they are heavier, more expensive, and require more maintenance. That's a different story.
Congrats on getting started on steel and having the smarts to take lessons from Jimbeaux. You're in good hands. Send me an email if you want to come by some time and try my steels and amps. I love to talk shop.
PS., I have a NV400 you could try; but a bass player blew the speaker and I haven't gotten it repaired yet.

For the money, a modded Nashville 400 cant be beat for its size, weight, and power. I still think its one of the best Peavey made.

My primary amp for Steel is a Nashville 400. It's my 3rd one, I wish I had the other two back ....
The price mentioned is right at market for a nice clean one ..( my opinion ) especially with shipping included.
get the amp, don't look back
