I heard a gospel version of this song the other day and I started to do some checking into it. I pulled up some information on "Je T'appartiens" or better known in the USA as "Let It Be Me".

"Je T'appartiens" was originally a French song written in 1955 by Gilbert Becaud. Under the name of "Let It Be Me" it has been recorded by the Everly Brothers (1960), the Lettermen (1962), Herb Alpert (1962), Glen Campbell & Bobbie Gentry (1969), Elvis Presley (1970) Bob Dylan (1970), Kenny Rogers & Dottie West (1979), Willie Nelson (1982) and on and on.

With the help of my good friend, CrowBear, I learned that "Je T'appartiens" means "I Belong To You" in French. There are a couple of sets of lyrics to this song and one of them has gospel connotations. I have included the English lyrics, the French lyrics and CrowBear's translation on the tab.

I really think you would enjoy playing this song. It is tabbed in E9th, as per usual. Just give me a shout and I will put it in the mail for you.

I hope that when you pray, you can say "Je T'appartiens" to the Lord. :D

I have been doing this song on guitar and steel for the past 45 years. It is one great melody. And to spice it up on steel I put the Jeff Newman "Sweet Memories" ending on it from his Woodshed collection.

According to my original sheet music from MCMLV Published by Leeds Music Corp.
The English lyric is by Mann Curtis, French lyric by Pierre Delanoe and music by Gilbert Becaud.
