I'd like to know this too cuz I was working on some licks of his and it seemed like there are some notes going lower than the regular E9th tuning.

besides having the A and C pedals reversed from the Emmons setup, i think Jimmy tuned his guitar down a step to a D9 tuning.

Jimmy Day's Pedal Setup

Note where he raises his E's in this example. That's quite a reach for the AF combo. I think most Day set-up players raise their E's on the LKR.

Believe it or not, Lloyd Green does the same thing in reverse. He has an Emmons setup on his pedals (ABC), but raises the Es on LKR. At least that's the way it is in Winnie's book and other places I have seen Lloyd's copedant. Does anyone have a clue as to why these two great players had this seemingly awkward arrangement?

Each of them has an extra joint in his left leg. When Lloyd says he has "two left knees", he means it! Very Happy Laughing

I'm a JD fan. Did he ever lower both E's to Eb or was it always just the low one? Also, can anyone shed any light on how he used the F# to F lower on the first and the Eb to C# on the second strings? Lowering to C# would make sense to me if he lowered the high E as well. Also I think I saw his copedant in Winnie's book and it showed his 5th string B with a lever pulling up to D.
