I contacted the seller of that blonde D-8 about the price. I just heard back. He said some numbers are etched on the bridgeplate and the seller changed his mind. Before he relists it, he will sell it for $1250 shipped. Email me if you want it and I will pass along the email. Still sounds like a deal. You could have the etching buffed off and rechrome for probably under $25.

If I recall correctly, the seller is a forum member who not too long ago stepped in some road pie for his failure to adequately disclose issues with another ebay steel (Wilcox). I thought he acquitted himself well enough on that one that I was willing to give him the benefit.
Although I'm not hung up on etching on the bridge cover, I'm a bit more hung up on the failure to adequately describe and disclose issues---any issues with this guitar in his ebay copy. On a guitar this clean, a cosmetic detail like this is significant. WTF? |

I recall seeing several fenders in the past that had etching on the chrome and it was in the description with pics. Surely, not an oversight by the seller who as you say isn't a newbie. In any event, I am not judging anyone, just passing the sale along. Thanks for the heads up.

| He bought this on ebay a month ago for $960. In that sale the etching was clearly seen in the pictures. Interestingly enough seller "forgot" to include that shot when he sold it a month later for a $300 profit. Good job, Bill. Y'know---that engraving is so invisible on this resale that it makes me wonder if it wasn't photoshop smudged, although it could just be the lighting angle.
No, 'inadvertent' is no longer in play, either way, after reading the explicit description and viewing the photo from the original ebay sale. |

NOT THAT THIS AUCTION IS NEFARIOUS, ...BECAUSE I HAVEN'T PERSONALLY SEEN ENOUGH OF IT TO FORM AN OPINION; But:
"Safe Harbor" at ebay has become to mean safe harbor for scam artists ...many of which seems to suit ebay's front offices just fine. Maybe ...just maybe... ebay might occasionally catch / address ones that don't have the high $$$$$ volume ebay seems all too eager to protect. See another SGF ongoing ebay discussion.
