Did all of you survive? Let us know. We had a run in with one of Houston's finest as he told us we could not bring our trailer in to load out until 3:00 AM. Naturally, he won the discussion and we had to drag our stuff a long way out to the parking lot rather than wait til 3:00 AM as we were packed up by 12:30 AM. But we survived. Jody. |

Yea Jody, I survived 3 nights in the Mis-B-Havin tent. Had a good crowd all 3 nights. Was fed well but getting to the Park & Ride was a "Btch". Had to stand in line for an hour waiting on buses with the drunk and uncooth misfits of society. Learned my lesson. Toted my gear on a 4 wheel dolly for at least a mile to the yellow $12 pay car lot the last night. Saw a couple of other steelers I didn't know but didn't get to chat with them. Wish I'd known you were there.

Hey Jody sorry I could not be there. Karen has been under the weather and I just could not get away. Other than the load and unload sound like everyone had a great time. I got you covered for Dallas just give me a call. God Bless |

I didn't know about the 3am thing. We played long and late, ... 12:30 when the cops shut us down... and our band wanted to get home to Austin that night. So we just pulled the band trailer up to our tent and loaded up. Nobody said anything and there were Houston PD all over the place.
I stayed in H-town and went to Bobby Bowman's place the next day. Toni and Dr. B were shocked and in disbelief. They allowed as how the cops were actually ARRESTING AND JAILING people for bringing their cars in before 3am for load-out. They didn't get back home til early, early Sunday morning. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

I too survived the hike in and out from the yellow lot, Th/Fri/and Sat nights. Saturday night, I had my stuff packed up onto a handtruck and loaded out to my truck by 12:15. Then I had to bring the hand truck all the way back in, but I was still home by 1:30 or so.
Worst part of the deal for me was having to set up and tear down each night. We had 2 bands in our tent - we played first, and then Darryl Dodd was the headliner. I had to tear down after our set each night to make room for Darryl's guitar player. I stored my stuff overnight in the tent behind the stage up on milk crates to keep it off the ground.
But, that was also the best part for me as it gave me the opportunity to go around and hear some other guys play. Even though I could not get in the other tents Saturday night due to the crowds, I was able to hear from outside ok.
All in all, a good time. |

All, I was there at the cook-off, unfortunately I only had a tent pass for one tent They had a karaoke singer...I didnt get to venture around much, but peeked into a tent and saw Bobby Bowman playing. _________________ '74 Emmons D10 P/P 8x5,'15 Rittenberry D10 8x5, Peavey Nashville 112, 400 & 1000, Fender Twin Reverb Tone Master, Hilton, Goodrich L120, Boss DD-3 and RV-3 |

Every year I wind up playing the cookoff with somebody...and every year I swear it will be my last. The load in/out situation is so horrible that it almost ruins the whole gig. This year I was sitting in with a group....I dreaded it for weeks, but it was not really that bad. Who knows? Might do it again next year!

ALL, I am on the Safety Committee for the Rodeo and Bar-B-Que and worked (visited) all four days Thursday to Sunday.
I have the luxury of visiting all of the tents and listening to the great sounds. I listened to Dickey O, Jody S, Herb S, Kenny B, and stayed a lot of the night in the tent where Robie Brim and his swing band were playing,
I will tell you for one weekend I heard a lot of great steel.
Next year, I will try to work out a deal to see if I can bring my truck on in. I park it by the Arena so that is closer than the busses, I also have a golf cart out there that I ride around in so that may help.
JC, I still owe you one and I did not even know you were there. Keep me up on where you are playing.
ALL OF YOU SOUNDED FANTASTIC.
