I bought a new fender lap steel, and I don't like the bright vintage sound it produces. I,m wanting a more mellow jazz type sound. Any recomendations on a new pickup to install!

Don't those new Fender lap steels use strat type pickups? Ask Pete Biltoft from www.vintagevibeguitars.com to recommend you something, just tell him what kind of sound you're looking for - I have a hunch that his Charlie-Christian-style blade pickup, or his strat-shaped P90 might be what you're looking for...

I recently put Pete's Strat-size blade pickup in my steel, and it's great -- very full, wide range tone with lots of sweetness. He underwinds lap steel pickups, so they are still loud, but not screamers. Best thing to do is e-mail him and descrbe the sound you want -- he'll make a recommendation. A great guy to deal with!
