Greetings.
A buddy of mine is a member and said I should try this.

My grandfather played steel in several bands in West Texas from the 40s through the 70s. His name was W.M. Stansbury, based out of Cross Plains, Texas near Abilene. I know recordings and photos exsist and I would love to find some. Some of the players he played with are still in the area. He played a Rickenbacker D16 which I now have.

I understand this is a needle in a haystack, but I know what a tight knit community steels are so I'm hoping for the best.

thanks for you time.

---on the contrary, I'll bet you a box of donuts & a six pack that you get some amazing answers. I've been here on the forum for a while and I've seen great things.

Oddly enough, just as I sent that, my mom sent me this picture. It's me @2 watching him play.

You may have some luck if you also post this in the "Steels Without Pedals" section.

Emery, someone here will wander along who knew your Grandfather. This an amazing forum. I just got a case order from a man in Texas who grew up with me literally around the corner from where I lived on Long Island fourty years ago. What are the chances?

I don't know anything about your Grandfather, but I do know about Cross Plains, Texas. Thats where I got my one and only speeding ticket.

They do like to hand out tickets there. Gotta fix those potholes somehow.
