I raise my high F# to G# along with raising my 2nd string on a knee lever. On my Zum, there's a feel stop so that the first string goes to G without activating the second string change. Then, once you move it past the G to G# the second string raise happens at the same time. I love this but can't figure out how to do it on a LeGrande.
Anyone know how to make this happen?
Thanks! |

Chris,
Does your Emmons have a feel stop on the 2nd string lower lever? If so, how do you like it? If you like that type of feel stop, you can order one from Emmons. As far as the getting a delayed raise on the 2nd string (when pulled along with string 1), all you have to do is move it's pull rod to a different hole in the bell crank. A hole farther away from the square cross shaft will give you more slack before the string starts to tighten. Also, changing which holes in the pull fingers that the rods go through will change the leverage and timing of the pulls. You can trial and error and maybe come up with a combination where the 2nd string pull acts as the feel stop for the 1st string at the desired G note.
Personally, I'm not at all fond of the Emmons feel stop. I miss the pitch just as often with or without it. What type of feel stop does your Zum have? I wish I could find a good one.

Thanks Dave.
Frankly, the Emmons feel-stop is incredibly sloppy compared to the Zum. It miss the accurate change half the time as well. Still, though, I wanted to give this a try since it's such a cool change to be able to hit strings 1 and 2 with the 1/2 tone raise on string 1 and then have both string raise together following that. |

Chris,I raise 1 a whole. 2 a 1/2 and 7a whole. and lower the 3rd on c6th 1/2 on the same knee, Assuming you have 14 hole cranks. I time my 1/2 tone raises, strings 1 &7 with my 2nd string 1/2 tone raise. Bottom line, The string two 1/2 tone raise is the half stop feel for 1 and 7. It's not great. But and added 1/2 tone feel stop would make it to stiff. But if your not raising 7 a full tone. Which BTW is a much stiffer pull than the 6th string whole tone lower. And you have no C6th changes. The 1/2 tone feel stop just may be the ticket for you.For what it's worth.I have my 3rd string blocked off with my split tuner so that change is very short. It ends when the F#'s are raised to G..Comes in handy when you're in a hurry. |

Thanks Bobby. Actually, I also have the low F# to G# as well as the C6th change on that knee too. I wrote the original post in a bit of an abbreviated form.
Sounds like your solution may well be the way to go. As for any possible stiffness, I really don't mind as long as I can get the changes I want with it. From what you're saying, I probably don't need to deal with that, though.
(I just wish those Emmons feel-stops worked better!) |
