Can anyone tell me which brand of strings make the shorter twist next to the ball end. My D'Addario's are a little to long and almost ride up over the finger. I think this may be why I get a whining sound on my high "E'". |

Wish I knew Rick. A few years ago when David McKnight was involved with Jagwires and maybe even at the beginning, the Jags had a coil rather than a twist that was very short like less than 1/4", and nowhere near the finger radius. Wish I had bought more of them then.
I know they still offer a short twist 3rd [.011 I think] but it is different than those I refer to. I'm not sure, but I don't believe they offer them in the other gauges.
I've got a pic of one of these at my image cave account but can't figure out how to post a link to it from this pc. Maybe try http://usera.imagecave.com/prosteel/bM/. and browse the page for the string photos.
I'd sure like to know if anyone offers anything like them now. [/b] |

I just sent some Jagwire to a fellow in North Carolina that had the same problem with D'addarios, I think his problem was solved with Jagwires.

Back when I started playin' in '72, none of the stores in Milwaukee had steel sets. You had to build them up from a stores "string catalogue" box. Most stores had Ernie Ball strings, and the wind was very long. Lots of problems with the knot ending up too high on the finger on lowers. Caused a lot of tuning issues, and noise issues. Then I found Ralph at West Allis music. Got strings from him, maybe labeled Shobud? Can't remember. |
