It's been on there a couple times. Apparently nobody else wants to pay that much, either.

Up here in Seattle, I think about $100 less or so. It is also the older one. Is this the "string breaker" model with the solid bridge??

But there have been a lot of steels on craigslist here this month. Not sure why.

There are also a couple of interesting laps on there:

I dunno, that seems to be the going rate if its in good shape.. sometimes you find them cheaper on ebay,[sometimes not], but this one you can go look at, and play...If you can get it for around $700 or so, I would grab it..ebay scammers often try to unload unplayable junk for top dollar, so its a crap shoot there...

Geez I cleared $ 825 for a 1965 4 pedal 400, plus Rumble Seat Music got thier consignment fee, plus the guy had to pay shipping to Holland!! Old Fender sdo NOT come up every day in good solid playable cond.. You have to look for good ones..

The old ones sound way better IMHO.. The improved "non string breaker" changer and "Jaguar style" pickup that Fender introduced around 1964-65 had a detrimental effect on the tone of Fender pedal steels, but of course, that topic is open to debate.. bob

Having both, I wouldn't call it detrimental at all, just different. The earlier long-scales have more treble bite, and a sort of Tele/Jazzmaster hybrid sound. The later short-scales have a smoother tone, more like the blend of a Jag and a Strat in the middle pickup position.

The "string breaker" name is a bit of an anomaly - make sure the bar bridge has no burrs, lube it with Teflon dry lube, make sure there are "hog rings" at the changer and they work great. The after market roller bridge is helpful if you have a really nasty bar bridge, but a little sustain goes away.

The older ones are a little more desireable, but both make excellent platforms for retro playing or various mods. Lots of ideas are discussed on the Fender players page b0b set up.

As far as the price - that one does seem about a hundred too high. Still, it's not a ton of money for a great vintage guitar.
