I found a 45 at yard sale years ago of "Little" Jimmy Dickens doing that song; it's on Decca records from I would guess the mid 60's...
I saw him at the Opry a few weeks ago and asked him about it; he said that song was the "A" side of the single and a decent hit on the radio. Anybody know anything more about it? |

Hey PETE
You are right on, I remember this song on the Radio in California, that is all I know about it.
Question, Are you related to , Estell Finney, who was the best Mandolin picker I ever heard,?
picking around Visalia,California, at the same time
Roy Nichols, and Norm Hamlet, was picking around there, they were just part of the gang back then
Norm, if you see this, maybe you remember
Estell Finney, and Fiddling Hank Ayers who I think was your cousin, anyhow that was a long time ago

Hello Herbie,
I sure do remember Estell Finney, he was in our band in high school. We had a country music class in Visalia and we got to play every day. Jean Shepard and Gene Breeden talked the superintendant of schools to let us have a class of country music.
Other s were taking Band and Orchestra and we played country.
It was a really good time back in those days.
As far as I know it was the only school that ever let anyone have a class of country music. It was carried on for five years after we graduated.
Thanks Herbie for the good memorys.

Hey Herbie, I forgot to mention my Uncle Hank Ayers He was a real good fiddle player and we used to get with him and have some good picken sessions. I look back now and remember all the good musicians that were trying to get a start in music. I can`t even start naming them all because I would leave some of them out. And a lot of them went on to work with big artists and bands.
Hey Pete Finney been a long time since we have got to talk, Hope to see you out on the road or in Nashville.
Norm. |

Norm,
Good to hear from you. I also don't dare try to list all the musicians in that gang, can hardly remember mine at times, except Your Uncle Hank moved back to Arkansas, about the time I did. and won the Arkansas State Fiddle Championship. I picked some with Hank around here, My Bro. Lonnie, lived just a few houses from where you guys used to practice, of course we all hung out with Gene Breeden, and afrer Gene moved His Studio to San Jose, we hung out with him there,
I won't try to name all the musicians there either,
a bunch of them also went on to add their music influence and hit songs to the country list, I guess I better mention, Sonny Throckmorton, the song writer. and Bobby and Larry Black, Hoyet Henry, the list would go on and on, Oh yes your cousin ,Elderee married my one of my cousins there at Farmersville.
Ha,,Need to write a book to include all this, ( Hey to Daryl Stogner,,,add your comments here, you grew up around this bunch of Cotton Pickers,,,))
