I want to add 2 pedals on my LeGrande II. The front and back aprons (and pedal bar) have the additional pre-drilled holes (as delivered from the factory). The existing pedal crossbars appear to extend into bushings that are themselves inserted into holes in the aprons on each end. I don't see how this thing was put together unless one of the aprons is removable.
IS one of the aprons removable? If so, which one - and can you give some advise on the best way to get it off?
Thanks

Welcome to the wonderdfull world of Legrande. Once a rod is in the only way to remove it is to cut it. I remember years ago at St. Louis standing beside Ron Lashly Sr. showing his new Legrande model and him explaining how the crossrods were spring loaded for easy installation. I also vivedly remember thinking how do you get them out?

Bruce,
I suspected that one end of the crossrod might have a spring loaded dowel in it, but I figured it would be cheaper to just turn down (lathe) the ends of the square rods and then line them up (jig) and apply the apron to all at once.
So then, a new rod can be inserted without seperating the cabinet - you just have to cut it if you want to remove it later. Which end has the spring? I might try prying it back with a couple of knives. - Sorta like a door bolt.

Dave, are you needing to add two cross shafts or remove them?

Jerry,
I'm going to add 2 cross shafts for the new pedals. I am also moving all the knee levers a little toward the center of the guitar. Initially, I thought I would have to relocate the cross shafts that LKL and RKL are directly attached to, but I now think they can stay put. I'll get surface mount knee levers and rod over to them. So, I shouldn't have to remove any of the full length shafts. I will, however, have to relocate 2 half length shafts that I had added for the C6 left knee cluster.
Thanks for asking. Any advise from someone who has worked on a LaGrande would be greatly appreciated.

I added the C6th center knee cluster to my Legrande II.

I got the knee kits from Ron Lashley and he sent a diagram

along with the exact measurements as to where to place them.

I removed a cross shaft on my Le Grande by scoring the spring loaded dowel with a cutting wheel on a Dremel tool, and then pushing the dowel into the cross shaft by grabbing onto the cut in the metal with a knife. Once the dowel is pushed in enough, the cross shaft can be pulled up and out.
If you could search back about ten years on the forum, you would find me posing this same question. There's not much room to play with in there, but I managed to do it on mine...Jerry
