Here's a great reso player I came across on MySpace, don't know if he's been mentioned here before or not, but his name is Rich Arnold and he plays some incredible jazz on his squareneck dobro (in standard high-G, I believe).
Check out the tune called "Scrapple" (and then the rest of them)...

That's very impressive playing, Steinar. It's humbling to hear someone like that and realize how far you have to go if you want to travel down the same path. Thanks for sharing! _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

this is a some pretty amazing playing.....I still prefer the dobro as a bluegrass instrument.....but this guy is so good...
.if I lived 40 more years......I am 60.....I could never play like that.....oh well..I just keep trying.....and learning more.....still having fun...playing the simple tunes I know....and dreaming about someday being 1/2 as goood as this guy...
most important of all....this is so much fun....just play and have fun.........ch |

Well, I'm the opposite. I've always been on the look out for dobro to be played as a jazz instrument. I'm going to the SoulGrass concert this saturday at the bluenote which will feature jazz sax player Bill Evans and mandolinist Sam Bush. I really think the combination of jazz and bluegrass is the next big fusion music. |

Tanks for the link Steinar ! A non conventional use and contest of an instrument but absolutely American flavoured music...Bill Frisell went to Nashville. |

Sounded good but, i just didn't hear "JAZZ" I mean it didn't swing very hard. i can definitely see the direction of bluegrass TO jazz. On the other hand kudos for stretching beyond the standard bluegrass box. |
