Is it possible to get that "Don Helm" sound on an E9? If so, I am looking for a tab for the kickoff to "Your Cheatin'Heart". I can play it on the E9, but it just does not have that classic sound and of course that song is always requested.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Larry,
I have been practicing on the link and I think I have most of it, however, I am not sure what the "F" means? I used the LKR for the "F'. It lowers the E. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Wally

I play this song based off of Don Helm's version from his course. I play on E13 as well as on E9. To get the same sound you can use only the A pedal to simulate the E13th tuning. This one falls nicely with just that pedal and all the other licks and fills without. The fret positions are exactly the same as the ones on the E13th neck.

A Fender Pro from the early 50s helps too! I built one from the mid 50 (5E5) and it really has that classic tone.

Here is the E13th style that I play on the E9th. This gets you on the correct frets and a decent sound. When I tune my E13th, I set the root to 442 and the 6th note to 437. On the E9th I tune the A pedal to 439 so I use a little bar slat on the intro to get it in tune. Note real sure on where the bar separations should be on this tab. I kind of guessed, but if you play along with the recording you should get the gist. The solo that comes after this is centered around the 8th fret and uses the A pedal again.

On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th measures you need to slide from one fret to the next. The 4th fret uses a quick slide from the 8th fret to the 7th and back.

For sure there are bars missing where the vocals are but each fill comes right after the vocals. Right on the tail end of the phrase or just after it. So if its missing a bar just wait to the end of the phrase and play the next fill.
