Tommy
I have posted before about the incredible tone that you have. The "By Request" recording is superb - both the playing and the tone.

I am interested in the recording of that album and also your instructional video/DVD of E9, the latter is just about as good as it gets tone wise. Did you DI on either of the recordings or mike up an amp? Either way its a rich clean tone. I don't want this to get into a "It's all in the hands debate" from other forumites. Just interested how you got the end products out.

(PS - can't wait for your follow up DVD on C6 if you ever find time to do it).

Thanks so much Ken.
For those particular recordings I plugged into a Webb 6-14 steel guitar amp with only one mic, which was the standard ol' SM57.

Thanks for taking the time out to give us this information Tommy. I think your reply puts into perspective the simple equation of steel guitar + amp cannot be beaten for pure sonic reproduction. Some engineers do get a bit twitchy if they can hear a little hiss or hum, but the end result is well worth it.

There are those players who will plump for DI boxes, valve pre-amps and the likes. What you put out is a great example that simplicity is often best.
