I have not used the Golden Ears course, but there's a much more cost-effective course on the market:

I am about a third of the way through it. It's pretty decent, especially for studio newbies.

This course trains you to hear the intervals between notes in a
scale by implying that each note or tone or pitch has a marker
you can identify like flavors or colors. I tried it .. not sure if I
can tell any better than I used to ... playing the Steel guitar
will improve your pitch recognition or you'll give up and learn the
lute.

Are you sure the Golden Ears course does this? I read the whole website and didn't see any mention of pitch or interval recognition. To me it seems like they're focusing on perception of EQ, distortion, level differences, etc.

Just to clarify, if we're talking interval/pitch training, that's a completely different kind of ear training than the recording-oriented ear training programs. If I understand correctly, Golden Ears is geared toward recording, as is Critical Listening Skills. Earmaster is geared toward musical ear training...pitches, intervals, etc.

Speaking of musical ear training, my favorite is http://www.aruffo.com/eartraining/software.htm - Ear Training Companion. It trains for absolute ("perfect") pitch and relative pitch. Between this and playing steel guitar, my ear has gotten to be pretty good

I've tried that one too (David Lucas Burge course)...I'd definitely recommend Ear Training Companion over it.

The subject of Golden Ears is to improve your listening skills in order to identify/solve audio problems.
Bryan – do you feel substantial changes in your listening skills that clearly are related to the course you are using?

Yes I do. Of course, I can't be sure how much is the program and how much is just practicing steel, but I have definitely gotten better at pitch recognition, interval recognition, and improvisation. Sometimes I can even pull a note out of thin air...just think "A," and then sing it.

Guys, have you seen this? It's on-line, free and includes trainers for pitch and interval identification. Also theory overview. I use it alot. It's quick and easy.

Hmm - I’m not sure why this thread was moved? The product I asked about solely deals with the subjects of identification/changing/solving audio issues in recording/producing situations, in order to improve critical listening skills.
I’m sorry - this is not about perfect pitch, intervals etc!

Ah, Bruno, you may have been asking about the Critical Listening course, not the Ear Training Companion. I haven't noticed any difference yet with Critical Listening, though I'm not all the way through it. I think most of the topics it covers are second nature to me since I've been doing studio work for a while.

I've used David L. Burges' stuff for years and I think it is great although he's a little strict as far as passing the tests and moving on ect... That Musictheory.net site is fantastic. I'm going to start using that on a daily basis. Thanks for the link. J
