U.S. Navy 1948-1952. First stationed aboard the aircraft carrier Kearsarge 1948-1950, then stationed aboard a Landing Craft Tank (LCT 742)in Korea during the war...offloaded Ammo from cargo ships to build an ammo depot north of Pusan, then helped in the evacuation of men and supplies from Hungnam(Chosin Reservoir Vets), then was stationed at Inchon.....one of the few sailors actually in Korea during the war...had the distinction of having the most time in country. GOD bless our service men in the Middle East now serving under the most horrendous conditions...we support you all the way.

U.S. Navy 1948-1952. Stationed aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kearsarge until 1950 then assigned to a Landing Craft Tank (LCT 742) in Korea during the period 0f the Pusan Perimeter. We offloaded Ammo from supply ships to build an Ammo depot. Was part of the evacuation at Hungnam (Chosin Reservoir ) to transfer men and supplies to ships off shore. Left Hungnam on Christmas eve. Was subsequently stationed at Inchon, Korea. Had the distinction of serving the most time in country for Navy. I wish to say GOD bless our men and women now in the Middle East...they are indeed heros to live under such horrible conditions and to be doing such admirable work. We support you one hundred percent. Our prayers are with you.

I can't say I'm too happy about everyone in the Army wearing black berrets. It used to be a coveted symbol of the Army Rangers. Instead of going to Ranger school I decided to play steel guitar full time. . . besides the Army wouldn't let me grow my hippie hair out like it is now. http://www.geocities.com/elevenhundred/newyear2003033.jpg

Nellis, Las Vegas
Korat, Korat, Thailand
Tinker, Oklahoma City, OK

Honorable Discharge as Staff Sergeant.
I notice there's a lot of "fly-boys" amongst the forum ranks, including my hero BA. I'm really enjoying your cd's! If you haven't heard Bryan Adams, you need to give a listen to some good, pure country steel!!

Real tough duty,
11 months Keesler (Gulf coast Biloxi, MS)
18 months Tyndal (Gulf Coast Panama City, FL most spent pickin' with BA & Ben
Then the bad one, isolated Radar Site off Okinawa. But as my dad said I was a better man for it. I still wonder what he was talking about.

New guy to this forum; and an old Army guy. Twenty-four years active duty, ('58-'82), literally all over the world. Great career/tough profession, but no regrets. Wish he hadn't, but eldest grandson is following in my footsteps. He's currently in Germany after his first tour in Iraq, but scheduled to return later this year.

Basic training Ft Leonard Wood...Steno school Ft Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis then off to Vietnam with the 199th Inf Brigade..Was there for the Tet offensive...
Before the Tet offensive played guitar and vocals with a group called the Cavaliers...We played all over the place... Bennie Summers from Oklahoma on steel guitar...When I joined the band I missed playing with Doug Jernigan by two weeks...Doug had just been sent up north...Several other musicians passed through the band while I was there...Bill Powell on elec bass, Dean Lewis on elec bass (from somewhere in Mo), Don Orr a Texas drummer, Pete Ramirez also from Tx on rhythm guitar and vocals...Would be great to hear from any of those guys...We had a great time of playing country music til the Tet offensive hit and then it was back to the real reason we were there....Thanks for listening...
