The Great Speckled Bird album, and later Powerglide, and seeing Buddy with GSB on Ian Tyson's show and at Festival Express in 1970 - all of this had a huge influence on me and helped lead me down the path to buying my first steel. Fifty bucks is in the mail Kevin.

Look at how many of us Buddy inspired to play this crazy difficult instrument.

Kevin: $100.00 is already on the way to add to the "Buddy Cage Steel Guitar Fund"! Hope this helps to get the guitar Buddy needs.
To Buddy Cage: Your playing with NRPS greatly influenced my early playing. I'm happy to help with this. If you ever get to Colorado and the Denver area, Buddy, please let us know! There are a lot of us out here who want front row seats, including me! Image

Update. I just spoke to Buddy. He was out on the streets of N.Y. searching pawn shops with a police detective for his stolen guitar. I have a new 14 string universal (7+7) lined up waiting to be built. I am just waiting for his go ahead. I think he just wants to make a concerted effort to get his guitar back before he excepts the gift guitar. I don't know. I am going on a road trip to P.A.
for five days. He told me to hold off until I get back. I told him I needed an answer in
the next seven to ten days. I don't want to hold this kind of money for too long. I have not and will not cash any of the checks until Buddy makes a decision.

Kevin, you can put me down for $25.00 if it is needed. If the new guitar is required, my check will be in the mail immediately.

Update. Buddy says he needs more time to decide on a guitar. I am expecting an answer from him next Monday.

Kevin,

Have you considered sending this info to the Grateful Dead community? Many of them followed the New Riders of the Purple Sage as well as the Dead. You may get quite a response. This may work as a link http://www.deadnetcentral.com/
There is an email to Sysop option on the bottom left of the screen. They would probably be very willing to help. Deadnet pretty much covers the entire world. Just a thought.

Regards,
Dick

We could probably buy Buddy a house if I did!
I think I have enough money to get Buddy what he wants. He is looking at extended 12 string E9ths right now. I sort of wanted to limit this to the steel community to make a point, but that is an excellent suggestion.
