I have a ZB D10, serial # 093. I had 2 levers added to make a total of 4. I've had it for many years. The only steel I've ever played except for an old gibson multiharp I had 40 years ago. I've had the ZB for over 30 years and it bears Zane Beck's signiture near the pickup's. I love it but then I don't know any better. Can't compare it to anything except the multiharp. My E mail address is wvwvaughn@wmconnect.com

Larry, I just brought home John Borchard's D-10 for an overhaul. The stories this guitar could tell. It has a fantastic tone. Ser#1034, 1965. Built for Sonny Curtis. I will get you some pics after the rebuild along with it's sister #1037 with it.

Thanks, Tom, for your very generous offer.

Zbump-away! I have info on nearly 50 ZB guitars. They're all beautiful.

Best to all - and I'm delighted that Tom Brumley is posting on the Forum. ZB! ZB! ZB!

One of the more notable ZB players was Jerry Garcia. I have several pictures of him at one, from the very early 70's, maybe late 60's.

Reading the ZB stories sparked a memory of a ZB guitar I had when I was about 14 years old.
In or around 1973 or 74, I was playing in St.Louis at what I think was one of Scotty's early conventions, where I met Bill Simms at the ZB booth. I was quite taken with the guitars they were displaying, especially a beautiful honey colored D-10 with pearloid inlay and machine jeweled endplates, pedal bar and knee levers. Long story short, Bill and I became friends and I recieved the guitar a week later with the added knee levers I requested. What a guitar. I played the guitar for only a short time, perhaps a year and got side tracked to something else, as we steel players often do.
I did send the guitar back to the factory in Arizona with a note of explaination. I often wonder where that guitar is and what ever happened to the nice Mr. Simms.

Larry

Just a note to say that I'll be able to locate any ZB pictures or info (serial #s of my three guitars) very shortly; I'll be emptying our storage unit prior to moving house in a week or so.

I haven't figured out how to scan and send pictures yet ( Image), even though I have a scanner sitting here! Do you want me to do that?

Thanks, Tommy, Kevin, and Roger:

I'm so delighted that so many Forum members have so many good things to say about ZBs. In the process of compiling this information, I'm amazed that so many players have, at one time or another, played or owned a ZB. There were probably only hundreds made, as far as I can tell. They sure got around, though!

Roger - you're welcome to send the photos to me when you find them and I can scan them and send them back to you ASAP - my folks have the same problem with their VCR! (:

Thanks all - Happy ZB!

It looks to me like it was originally red and most, if not all of the finish has been removed. Image

Thanks, everyone, for the info. Please keep it coming. I have some dating information (not the male-female kind, that's your own business...) if you want more info on your ZB. The count is around 50 guitars catalogued right now.

Some PRETTY pictures, too!
