Well what a surprise! I thought for some reason you were an old guy Nic. Great job.......I now have a new favorite version of Sleep Walk......Keep up the good work, you have a lot of years ahead of you to make some great music.

Haha, you would not be the first, sir. Age is a state of mind...so you kids, get off my lawn! But thanks for your kind comments. It's nice playing with a good jazz guitarist, he can nail those great last three chords...the trick with jazz guitarists is you have to make sure they don't get too bored! Need to work on my comping skills on steel so we can trade off a bit...Bill Groner wrote:I thought for some reason you were an old guy Nic.

One thing that has always bothered me is that usually you have a typical 1maj, 6min, 4maj, 5maj progression, but in this song it’s 1maj, 6min, 4min, 5maj with the 4min making it unique, EXCEPT, in Measure 2 of the intro and in measure 8 at the end of the A section, in those measures it’s 4 major, not 4 minor.
I also hear a lot of guys not using a harmonic on the opening lick, sliding 3-5-10-7.
I don’t know why, but some people do.

Ah-hah, that's interesting...when we were recording it the other day I was playing the (major) third on that note in the intro and it sounded off...so I just exempted the third and I think it was charted for 4min all the way through. I'll give the original a listen again because if it is 4maj in a couple spots, that would fix the oddness...Mike Ihde wrote:One thing that has always bothered me is that usually you have a typical 1maj, 6min, 4maj, 5maj progression, but in this song it’s 1maj, 6min, 4min, 5maj with the 4min making it unique, EXCEPT, in Measure 2 of the intro and in measure 8 at the end of the A section, in those measures it’s 4 major, not 4 minor.

That is exactly how I play it. Want to know why? I am not that proficient or coordinated enough to play it the right way, so I do the best I can and keep myself amused.

Someone recently told me that I was playing the harmonics on the wrong beat. So I listened to the original by S&J... and he's right! Santo strikes the harmonics on the downbeat. I play them on the following upbeat. A lot of other players do too. Oh well, 50 years of playing the song the wrong way! When I play it live now I put the chime on downbeat and it really does sound better that way. Old dogs really Can learn new tricks.

Megan Lovell seems to take the non-harmonic approach as well. Honestly while the first time I saw it I initially considered calling "sacrilege", the sound is great. I don't think I would have picked up on it without the video.
