I'm curious about what "open for relay" means. Is this about something that you've changed, or does that just mean using your notification script? I'm guessing that humans are not involved in making the initial determination.

I'll second that, b0b is the b0mb.

I'm curious about what "open for relay" means
From wikipedia ...
An open mail relay is an SMTP server configured in such a way that it allows anyone on the Internet to send e-mail through it, not just mail destined to or originating from known users. This used to be the default configuration in many mail servers; indeed, it was the way the Internet was initially set up, but open mail relays have become unpopular because of their exploitation by spammers and worms. Many relays were closed, or were placed on blacklists by other servers.

I think they assumed it was an open relay because the From: address didn't match the server it came from. That has been fixed (see above).

I thought I'd fixed it by adding the 'noreply' address to my contacts but apparently not. It only worked for that one thread I was following.

The other notifications are going in my spam-mail.

Roger, it appears b0b made a further change, the notification emails are now coming from "postmaster@bb.steelguitarforum.com" so you'll need to add that to your whitelist also.

True. That wasn't my intent - I thought I was only affecting the person-to-person emails.

this stuff gets confusing. :?

Art is with AOL.com - this is a good sign that things are improving.

The last big holdout is AT&T. 19 hours ago, they sent me a long email explaining their policy. The important part (to me) was:
When the AT&T Postmaster staff receives a request with the needed information requests are evaluated. If granted, the block will be removed within 24 to 48 hours.
So we're still on hold with AT&T. :\

The 48 hours have passed. I sent AT&T Postmaster another email with detailed error messages from the server logs.

Received this from AT&T about an hour ago:
The mail-server IP address(es) associated with your request will be removed from the block list within 24-48 hours from the date of this letter. AT&T and its affiliates do NOT intentionally block legitimate mail in the course of our anti-spam initiatives and regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
Fingers crossed.

I have never set up to receive email notifications of Forum activity. I gather I would choose that as an option in my Profile, if I wanted it. So I haven't experienced the things people have reported here.

But I recently sent an email to a Forum member using the "email" link in one of his posts, telling him about a suspicious email I received with his name as the sender, containing only a greeting (by my first name) and a very fishy looking link which I did NOT click on. I thought I should let him know about this, as his email was almost certainly hacked. But I never received any reply.

I can't quite follow what the issue being discussed in this thread is, but could the situation I've described be related to it? i.e., Maybe he never received my email, which was, as I said, sent via the Forum. And could the apparent hack be related too?

UPDATE: I've just gone into my email history and found that the member in question's email account is with sbcglobal, which you mentioned, b0b, as one of the email providers affected, so there's a good chance he never got my email. What I described above happened two weeks ago.

I'm beginning to think that AT&T doesn't really care if their customers get their emails. Sad.

Sorry for any confusion I might have generated today as I worked on the mail server. I implemented DKIM, a protocol that fights email spam, but there were a few hiccups in the process. You may have seen some error messages when you posted or sent a PM or an email.

a 4-hour struggle. Finally got it working (I think). I'm done for the day!

Google Gmail provided this very nice screen on one of my test messages, showing that SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are all properly configured. 8)
