I was truly praying the Good Lord was going to show us a way out of this. I saw this thread this past weekend as I was getting ready to go to a funeral for someone dear to me this weekend, but I was overwhelmed - I just didn't know what to say.

I'll tell ya' what. Dawn was at the level of a George Jones or Merle Haggard as a singer. She had the guts and soul to put it across to anybody, and she did it night after night. Even people that didn't "get" country music "got" Dawn when I played cuts of her with the Time Jumpers for them. Whenever I have been in Nashville, I have always drug anybody I could get my hands on down to listen. It was always, "whoah!". And I'll always thank Pete Finney for doing the same for me quite a few years ago.

RIP. My deepest condolences for her family and close friends.

Hello All;
Dave & everyone said what most of us feel about Dawn' singing - very well said.

I saw this on facebook this morning about Dawn's services & thought I would copy & paste it here:

Ok, starting a new thread with what Alison said about Dawn's funeral:

Alison Auerbach

Dawn's service was beautiful and befitting of her.
Tears and lots of laughter.
The way she would want it.
Standing room only and lots of applause.
You know you're a great singer when you get a
standing ovation after playing her recording of
"Sweet Memories." Connie Smith (Dawn's favorite singer) sang "Wayfaring Stranger"
with Marty and Carl Jackson accompanying her.
Vince played a new tune he wrote for Dawn.
To quote Vince: "Dawn had her 2 favorite chick singers here today. Connie Smith...and me."
He also said "I feel like I've lost my Don Rich and my Bonnie Owens." That about sums it up.

The ceremony ended outside when 5 doves were released and soared in the sky. Fly high Dawn.
"Tone is in the hands. Unless your wife will let you buy a new amp. Then it's definitely in that amp."

We need to turn the TWANG up a little

It's not what you play through, it's what you play through it.

They say that tone is all in the fingers...I say it is all in your head :)

That's a very nice description of the service.

There was a LOT of love in the room yesterday. Kenny and Tess were inspiring, both showing the strength and good humor that Dawn always embodied.

I feel very blessed to have known Dawn for almost 20 years, let alone the times we played music together, with probably hundreds of backstage hangs on Vince Gill/Patty Loveless and other shows over that time. She lit up any room with her spirit and personality as surely as she lit up any stage with her peerless singing and gorgeous voice.

I just found out about this. I'm so sad. I used to go listen to Dawn at the Nashville Palace in the 90's. She has always been one of my favorite singers. My most sincere condolences to Kenny and the rest of the family, and to the Time Jumpers who have lost a wonderful bandmate.

Hello All;
I want to Thanks everyone who took the time to read & or post on to this thread.
It is very much appreciated & I only wish her family could see this thread.

I am so far away from Nashville, but maybe someone of you close to there or someone who knows
any of Dawn's family could get this thread to one of the family so they could see that Dawn was very much loved
by many here on this Steel Guitar Forum.

Could you or anyone you know make this happen??

Thank You.
Ron

Here's a video of Dawn and Kenny's daughter, Tess, singing "Sweet Memories" in tribute to her mother. Heartbreaking to watch.

You can hear her voice start to break a couple of times. But she just reeled it back in. Truly an amazing performance by an amzing young lady. The look on Kenny,s face is priceless. So much pride in his daughter.
