Several people have confirmed that it is John Hughey. He was the guy to call for steel in Memphis during that era.

John was the guy to call for steel in Memphis at least for American Sound Studios,home of the Memphis Boys...the section made up of Reggie Young and the guys who played on so many hits produced by Chips Moman in the late 60s/early 70s...Dan Penn produced the Box Tops,so it's easy to see how John got the Box Tops call...Dan was a cohort of Chips Moman's...John and Reggie worked clubs together around that time...I used to love hearing different versions of the same stories from those two.
I think Leo LeBlanc did some stuff around Memphis in those days too...albums by Danny O'Keefe and John Prine come to mind...

John Hughey , Jimmy Day and Pete Drake worked with Elvis.....I believe Pete did some of the movie dates.
