Wow! Congratulations, Mike. when a man finds the instrument he was meant to play it's a beautiful thing. I can't wait to hear how it sounds and how you explore all those ideas.

My lifelong problem is that MY perception of the instrument I was meant to play changes on a semi-regular basis. Sigh.

That is why I made a commitment to play steel and drag along with it everything I've ever known on any instrument at every point in my life. That is why I see things the way I do.

My tunings are, bass strings first:

G A C D E G A C D E (I called it A minor pentatonic)

and

C D F Bb C E G A C E (C13 extended)

If you don't hear from me for a while, send a search party.

That is a beauty Mike! No doubt you are grinning from ear to ear. Todd does such a nice job on those. Nice birdseye like that is getting harder and harder to find. And when you do, its a freaking small fortune.

Looking forward to hearing you bring it to life :)

Wow..beautiful. No surprise there, all those Clinesmiths are amazing. A modern classic and a future one as well. Todd is a worthy heir to the Bigsby legacy for sure. I know you'll do it justice. Follow your muse in good health...

The deep strings have a piano like quality to them.
That is a quest of mine in guitar & amp. So great.

Real happy for you & your dream axe.

Congratulations Mike,
I can understand how you must feel. When the Rukavina was delivered I took two days off from my day job because I was excited to begin the new adventure.

Of course you could just tune them: root, 5th, root, 5th, etc etc. for the ultimate 20-string power chord!

A beautiful instrument! I agree with Mike that one neck-it chords, another solo. So it is very convenient at concerts. Just me FACEGACE-chords and GBDEGACE solo.

Todd Clinesmith wrote:I have some ideas going for some 22.5 inch cast lap steels. An Adolph meets PA type guitar. Also a 25 inch scale of this type. Hopefully by fall or winter this will get going.
Any more news on this?

The cast lap steels are going to happen, and getting closer. I had a few set backs . Last year I built a new shop at our home while keeping up on orders . I moved into it last June.
Since then I have been catching up on orders. The "catch up" has about been caught up with, so the project has momentum again.
I have the prototype done and funds are set aside for the project. I should have this to my pattern maker in the next month or two . The pickups are very close to complete .
I do not want to go into too many details at this time tho I can say:

I will be making these cast steels primarily for 8 strings. Tho 6 and 7 string models will be possible.
I will not be making 10 stringers .I offer 10 string models with my console steels and two other lap steel designs.
22.5 inch scale and 24 7/8 scale models will be available.
String thru body design.
Custom string spacings will be an option.

I am really looking forward to getting these guitars going. I appreciate the interest and the emails about these instruments. I have a "contact when ready" list started. If you wish to be on this or wish to be kept informed as progress takes shape please email me . I never email spam, self promotional material or marketing info. So have no fear ...

Single 10

Post by Tom Wolverton »

Mike, now that you've spent some time with the D-10, how do you like your tuning choises?

If you had only a single neck, what 10-string tuning would you use?

Tom, I changed my tunings within a short time of posting them here. Both necks are based on C6 (one is C13 and one is a Dmin11). I've been playing them for several months and am very happy. I feel they allow me to represent who I am as a player...for now. :)

If I only had a single 10 neck, high to low: E C A G E C Bb G E C
