Our Bobby

Post by Evelyn Simmons »

Sometimes, Trusting God is the hardest thing to do. This is one of those times. Knowing Bobby was one of the "big thrills" of our lives. To me, it was like knowing a movie star. We were in awe of him and his talent. He could play anything with anyone. He appreciated talent, songs and guitars like no other. I was always amazed that he knew every song anyone played. I loved hearing him sing. It wasn't just talent on the surface.....he had a deep, deep well of it. This is for sure one of the saddest weeks of our lives. Knowing that "someday" we will understand it better isn't helping much. We wonder how God could need him more than Linda, family, ISGC and friends. We just know ECC 3:1-2 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven; 2) A time to be born and a time to die. That goes for all of us. Once I heard someone say...make sure when it comes to dying that is all you have to do. Bobby loved the Lord. A consolation

There are no words to express this great loss for us and for the music industry. Bobby was one of the greatest musicians that I have had the privilege to play with. He was as great a person as he was a musician. I had the privilege to work with him on Scotty's International Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis for the 2 previous year before he was unable to play this past year. We will all miss and love him and remember his warmth, his frienship and fantastic smile.

Linda, our hearts are so heavy for you and the family and for all of us who loved him so much.

God bless and hold you in His loving arms.

Judy and I are deeply sadden by this news. I have known Bobby for 40 years +. He always had a smile for Judy & I. Linda you & family will continue to be in our prayers. The one thing that sticks in my mind is that he never over played and when he
played with someone with considerable less talent, such as I,he played at my level. What a great class act he was. See ya Pal. Ron & Judy Mercille

I have known Bobby for the many years that I have been attending the St.Louis Convention and I have respected him and Linda ever since I have met them. Both are fine people and Bobby "is" one of the best guitarist that has ever lived. i admired him as a talent and as a human being. I will miss him always.

A Great Man

Post by Bill Cook »

Everyone knows of Bobby's talent as a great musician. He was also a great person. Bobby always went out of his way to speak with me at every convention and inquire about "The Alabama Gang". He was always offering words of encourgement for us to "keep picking". We have lost a true Legend and Friend. Our prayers go out to Linda and family. May God Bless them and give them strength during these times. RIP my Friend!!!

we shared wine, women and song, as they say, and oh, thumb picks and strings and a few licks, also a grand respect for talent and some favorite steel players. we shared a genuine and deep quest to understand our place. we never talked about death, just life. you go on bobby, we'll soon catch up.
my turn, love you ,pal.

I talked to him only twice but sat and listened to him on many occasions......but I think I knew him pretty well.....he displayed his heart not only with his playing but with every post he made to the forum.
