How about the tone from a song that Ill bet has gotten air play every day from the day it was released in 1972 to today. Old Man from Neil Youngs Harvest By the great Ben Keith. To me he is the best!

One of my favorites is the Paul Franklin turn around in Buttermilk John, a vocal by Vince Gill, while sitting in with the Time Jumpers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkvhf5I6xtA

last night I watched the Time Jumpers on RFD TV, John Hughey's playing on Sweet Memories almost brings tears to your eyes. Amazing tone, I don't believe that anyone could sound better that that.

I consider the tone on Lloyd Greens Revisited CD to be every bit as good and better than any of his early stuff. Just pick any tune on the whole thing and he knocks it out of the park. My personal favorite would be Leftys Borrowed Angel.

if there was just one song to epitomize steel guitar, i would choose 'lost in the feeling' by john hughey and his singer, conway! the story line, title and tone of vocal and steel is magical.

Steve Wariner's "When I could Come Home to You". I'm not sure if it was Allyn Love playing or someone else.
