I used to stow my strings and volume pedal in my steel guitar case and use it for a seat, because someone told me that's what Buddy Charleton did. It didn't take me very long to allow that it wasn't the best solution, so I bought a used Sho~Bud seat from Dumplin' and sat on it for the next 20 years or so.

No modifications necessary, my Kimber UC 3"er in a Fobus paddle fits with room to spare. My Colt long slide fits also but kinda hogs the scene.

My situation is kind of unique - I play steel and keyboards, so the ability to swivel the throne around is necessary for me. Again, with the throne in the gig bag, not much to carry.

Yeah, Cal... Sneaky used to always sit on his steel's road case.
But then again, he was a man alone on a mountaintop, if you know what I mean.

Personally, I thought a drum throne was just fine, until I got my first Pak-a-Seat.

Yeah, I do know what you mean; that's good way to put it. He was from Indiana, and he once remarked to me that there was hardly any culture between LA and NY.

I use a lite Steelseat with no backrest or sidecar. It's light, durable, and comfortable. $200. But this price also reflects the roadcase-quality of the seat, which protects the $500 or so worth of gear inside it. I like to carry three things when I gig: steel, amp and seat.....not steel, amp, seat, cable bag, and pedalboard.

I have had one of most of the popular seats and they are all good. I have been using the Scott Dixon seat for over a year now and it is the best I have had. It is a bit higher priced simply because it cost more to manufacture than a traditional seat. Mr. Dixon is in the process of moving his entire operation from the UK to the U.S. so that his manufacturing cost will not be so expensive. The seats run about $369.00 US but are worth ever extra penny for the extra room, the protection and the light weight. This company also builds great guitar, amp, rack, drum and other cases. If anyone is interested in any of Scott Dixon's steel guitar related products I can help you with that.

On the Scott Dixon site, click on Downloads. There is a PDF file that shows steel cases and seats.

I wonder how much a steel seat and a D-10 case weighs?

BTW, my ScottDixon seat weighs loaded with two volume pedals, a RV 3, a Matchbro, Flipstrobe, strings, chords, picks, bar, and the normal stuff about what my seat with the side thingy weighs empty. At my age with my back it's easy to justify an extra $100 or so.

I've been using a Steelers Choice the last few years without the sidecar and back and I've got it loaded and it's still not heavey compared to my old Sho-Bud seat. I don't play any 2 hour shows so I'm ok without a backrest and it's very comfortable.

Thanks Chris and Cal both have my seats and Chris bought one of my first Lite models - then went to a larger model and back to another Lite.

Several have a larger seat for home, studio or some where they let them set and a Lite model for playing gigs.

Hey Joe! I've got a little butt (not much padding, which is why sitting on my case was a little uncomfortable) and not much stuff to tote around and I don't travel, so the Lite seat works great for me. But there's no room for my S&W.

I get ask size for foot pedals but have not been ask to make sure any fire arms of any size fit - I guess if someone wants one it would be just like a BIG wide seat - Maybe Road Case size for those special longer rifles.

I could do that too but it will not be light weight "Lite model" is out for that. I have built some with SideKars and no dividers for Drummers - "THEY SAID FOR DRUM STICKS BUT WHO KNOWS"

I try to make what the customer wants!!!!!

Dumplin, here's the old Sho~Bud seat I got from you back in the late 70's, I guess. I had to retire it about 10 years ago. It went all over the country with me. It took me a day to find it on my computer. Ha.

I guess my reference to Browning as an inventor may have touched it off. Seems like I remember another lengthy thread a while back that dealt with firearms in the Pack-A-Seat.

BTW, as long as I have a Pack-A-Seat, that gal has a place to sit! (or something like that) LMAO!
